Welcome to the first edition of FAXNEWS from Lane. Everything we do as a business is focused on making fax and messaging communications work effectively for organisations of all sizes; as there is so much change in the industry at the moment we decided it would be a good time to share our thoughts, experience and news with our customers and contacts.

So we’ll be in touch regularly to help keep you informed with balanced and independent comment on issues relating to fax technology, tips and advice on getting the most out of your communications network and news items we think you should know about.

Take our Fax over IP virtual tour

There’s lots of talk about Fax over IP (FoIP) at the moment, much of it driven by an industry keen to push things in that direction. Lane fax servers support FoIP and are based on industry-leading Dialogic technology but we know that it isn’t right for every organisation. Potential benefits of FoIP include:

Lower maintenance and operating costs, and easier deployment.
Consolidation of data, voice and fax communication over a single network.
Better disaster readiness – crucial where fax communication is business-critical
Enhanced business productivity
The opportunity to virtualise your fax server saving hardware costs

Whether you can actually derive the full potential benefits of a FoIP installation at a reasonable cost really depends on your current infrastructure and whether you are making the most of the capabilities of your fax server. That’s why we have produced a FoIP virtual tour which takes you through alternative scenarios and explains where you are likely see the much discussed benefits and where that is unlikely.

Follow this link to take the virtual tour where you will also find an exclusive free White Paper that provides a balanced assessment of the potential benefits for your type of business

Lane leading the way with Avaya

Lane’s Passport 4000 Fax Server has become one of the first fax solutions to pass compliance testing for Avaya’s latest IP telephony systems. Passport 4000 has been compliance-tested by Avaya for compatibility with: Aura Communications Manager 5.2.1, System Manager S8510, Session Manager S8510, S8370 Servers and G650 Media Gateway. This provides businesses operating Avaya Voice over IP systems with a fully compatible solution for bringing fax onto their IP network. Converging voice, data and fax onto a single network in this way has the potential to reduce complexity, management overheads and costs. Lane is an Avaya DevConnect Gold Partner.

Lane rewarded for excellence by major international bank

Our client, whose name has been withheld to respect client confidentiality, is one of the world’s largest banking and financial services groups with many thousands of staff operating out of over 8000 offices in more than 80 countries. Lane fax systems have been installed at the Bank since 2002 and provide a centralised hub for all fax traffic within major parts of the Bank’s operations.

The Bank’s confidence in Lane’s systems and support has been demonstrated by the latest addition to their Lane system; an additional 120 fax ports. These are to be installed on the UK centralised system although the physical lines will be located on remote Passport 4000 fax service servers in France to serve predominantly the inbound faxing requirements of the Bank’s French clients.

Configured over multiple platforms for resilience, the 120 fax ports will be connected to the Orange network via four Primary rate ISDN circuits. The received faxes will get passed to an in-house application via a customised secure FTP process from where they can be accessed by the various French offices.  This expansion will take the overall system to a massive 324 fax ports processing approximately 20,000 fax pages every day.
